Resolved Question: Cords were cut to Breaker box.?

Hi I possess a property and the electrical cords were clip leading to the breaker box. I don't know how this happened but its a pretty clean clip right through about 3 wires going to the box. Is there a way to repair those lines or is this a more complex problem or a bigger repair. I plan to call an electrician but I want to have an idea of what I am getting into before and I don't want them to suggest unnecessary work. Please keep rude comments to yourselves, I dont know anything about electrical. Thanks in advance.

Open Question: Recently, I no longer have power going to my out building, What will an electrician do?

to fix this? Is this something I could check first? I am not positive which switch on the circuit breaker goes to the out building, but I clip them every off & back on again & still no power. What else can I do to try & keep a $95 fee to have an electrician look at it (+ whatever cost there is involved with actually repairing it).

Resolved Question: How to be a qualified Electrician in UK?

Hi I was hoping that someone could help me. I want to be an electrictian and I have previously worked as a home and industry electrician for seven years in Africa. Sometimes with my dad, he is also electrician, and most of the time on my possess. We had a tiny store and I was there repairing electrical devices. The thing is now I need qualification in order to work as elect. in UK. I have heard about city n guilds 2391 but there are other qualifications which r similar to 2391 and makes it complicated to understand. So I have 7yrs experience but no qualification and I'm 24yrs old. Which qualification would gift that I'm qualified and practice as electrician? And bow much would the course cost? As well as the duration of the course? And is there any requirements to receive into the course?

Resolved Question: How do I evict my tenants?

I live in the state of PA and have the worst tenants! I've never had to evict anyone before so I'm not too sure how to go about doing it. We signed a year lease in October, they would've been evicted sooner but I didn't know how much it would cost and haven't had any extra money, now that I've gotten called back to my second job back I need to receive them out. So many things have happened. 1. We had a verbal agreement that they were not to smoke in my home, last week I found out that they have been smoking in the home and my son-in-law has gotten pictures of every of the ashtrays in the home. 2. They have not been on time with their rent once (It's been six months) it was due on the 15th and I have yet to receive the rent. I have every text message locked in my phone from day one of the constant lies about why rent is tardy (they always change their stories and I can prove that.) 3. They said a fuse was melting in the electrical box, the electrician said that someone was messing with the fuse box and didn't screw the fuse back in the entire way, had we not looked at it then we probably would've had to replace the fuse box or it could've got in flame. They also said that furnace was broken, the man that went to look at that said that someone went inside of the furnace and turned the switch inside shutting the furnace off. When asked about it they said that no one was in the furnace. 4. Last month they refused to pay rent (on the day it was due) because they said that there were repairs that needed to be made that we hand't made so they put it into an escrow account. They had never told us that anything needed to be repaired after we had initially repaired it, when confronted about it and told that they had to pay their rent (because they didn't give me any notice of the repairs or any notice that they wouldn't be paying that month) I was told that they didn't have the money and would pay it asap. Meaning there never was an escrow account. I also have those messages locked. I'm worried that not only will I not receive the rent this month but also that they are going to destroy my home (they have six months left). Every month there is another problem not to mention I believe they have someone else living with them. They wanted someone else to move in, I told him that was fine but the rent would have to go up as soon as I said that they didn't want this person to move in anymore, the persons car is only there and I want to go in for an inspection but I'm not sure how that works either. Someone told me that I have to give them 24 hour written notice before I can inspect someone else told me that I am allowed to go in there as long as it's a reasonable time during the day. It also states in the lease that I have the right to inspect the premises. I've tried to call many lawyers about the matter but no one has called me back, I've waited two weeks and have called some three or four times. I am evicting them but I have no idea how to start the process, can I list every of these things on the notice? Can I go in and inspect so that I can also put that on there? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME! Any and every information is greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time!

Resolved Question: A plumbing question that I asked yesterday and thanks for the replies but I have added information since?

Thank you to every who replied to my question yesterday and today on my immersion heater problem. I would like to take the opportunity to inform you people that every I was asking for help for was because I am a qualified Approved Electrician and not a plumber (everyone to their possess trade guys) and have no intentions of attempting to repair or replace the tank myself. I do not want to call a plumber in to tell me it's a direct or indirect or pressurised system (which I think it is) and receive charged £100 for that. I want to purchase the replacement tank and element/s and then call the plumber to remove and refit the new tank every at the same time. Thereby not incurring an extra cost as in most of you said receive a specialist in to tell me. The reason I call it an immersion heater is because years ago when you switched on the immersion to have hot water for a bath the switch had a label on it saying Immersion which some of you obviously have never seen before. Is a kettle also an immersion kettle cause it also has an element. I wrote an additional description of what I found after checking the tank out last night and I apologise for not giving every the info yesterday. The tank is fed from the main water supply whic is coming down from the top of the apartment block to a tap which closes off the water supply to every taps and immersion. At the top of the tank is an outlet marked hot water outlet (which I know it would be as the hot water rises to the top of the tank). There is an expansion vessel on the top of the tank marked 12 litre, 6 Bar Max and 3% average pressure. Question now, must I also buy a new expansion vessel or will it arrive with the new tank or should I stipulate that at time of purchase. The icy water input comes into a pressure relief valve marked 3 Bar and is a sealed unit. From the other side of the pressure relief a pipe Tee's and one goes to an inlet about 8 inches from the top of the tank and out to an overflow I think it looks like, then it also carries on to an inlet at the bottom of the tank obviously the inlet for the tank. It is marked as a Protea 210 litre capacity. If anyone can picture this and then tell me is it a pressurised system or direct / indirect I will be grateful. I was not being cheeky with my comments at the start of this I was merely stating that should someone ask for electrical assistance I would only treat them as I'd like to be treated myself, not as a complete imbecile, but to offer assistance to whoever, but I'd also expect everyone who are the plumbers amongst you to call for assistance from the appropriate tradesman i.e. Electricians, Joiners, Motor Mechanics etc.

Resolved Question: What type of repair person fixes garage floodlights?

The floodlight over my garage (shines onto the driveway) is broken and now just hanging by the wires. I am positive it needs to be completely replaced since the plastic parts on the inside are snapped off. My question is who do you hire to fix it? A garage repair company or maybe an electrician? I am not comfortable messing with electrical wires.

Resolved Question: Lights in Hallway Cut on and Off - Short Circuit?

I am living in a rental home, and have a problem with two overhead hallway lights. They are on the same circuit, with two light switches. If I turn them on, both lights work fine for about 20 minutes. Then, on light will clip out. Then both. Then they will both arrive on again. The repair mean said the problem was in the light switches and replaced them. This has done no good. It is not due to the light bulbs either. I have replaced them with the same problem. Is this a short circuit? The lights have done this for six months. What should my landlady tell an electrician or someone when they fix this? Is this a flame hazard? Any advice would be helpful.

Resolved Question: Has my washine machine's elements burnt out?

I was trying to use the washing machine the other day, and set the dial to the required cycle, and switched it on at the mains, when suddenly the electricity supply went down and my entire flat became dark. I waited about ten minutes and switched the electricity supply back on, the lights came on and everything was okay until I tried to switch the washing machine on again. The electricity went down. I called my builder (I don't know any local electricians) who came round and said that the elements of the washing machine may be burnt out. It's an old washing machine that came with the flat when I bought it last year. He says either repair it or receive a new one. As he isn't technically an electrician I am unsure whether he is right or there might be a different reason why the electricity tripped. I'm an entire novice around this subject, and would be grateful for any insight into what is going on. Many thanks.

Resolved Question: How do I fix the foot pedal on an Alco 709-5 vintage sewing machine?

I have my grandmother's old sewing machine, an Alco A709-5, with instruction manual and I /think/ every the original parts. The power cord goes into the bottom of a box screwed to the side of the cabinet. On the top of the box is a hole where the cord from the knee pedal goes in. On the front of the box are two outlets, one for the light and one for the motor. We just moved. I think the movers jarred the power cord loose inside the box. Neither the motor nor the light will work. When we plug both the light and motor into an extension cord, the light goes on and the motor goes at top speed until we unplug it. I unscrewed the box but cannot pry it open to try to reconnect the power cord. Do you have any suggestions for how to receive the box open or how to bypass it? If I got a modern foot pedal, would it plug into the wall and then I could plug the motor into it? The light is not essential to me, as I work in a well-lit room and honsetly I'm not an expert, I just make some of my kids' and my clothing using simple patterns. I have emailed the Necchi store in Italy and someplace in Colorado but haven't heard from them yet, and my 4-y-o has been ripping through the knees of his trousers (even store-bought jeans!) at an astonishing rate and desperately needs the new black ones we've already clip out and pinned. My pal who seems to be relatively expert warns me that no electricians are going to want to play with this old a machine. If I have to receive it repaired, any thoughts on my chances of getting the fully-insured movers to pay the repair bill? It was working the last time I tried it at my old place, a few weeks ago, and has given me no trouble since I inherited it about ten years ago. We're on a tight budget...

Resolved Question: Career suggestions for man of average intelligence?

I'm helping my significant other consider career choices; he's 32 and not getting any younger, and still hasn't figured out what to do with his life. After much wondering about his intellectual capacity, I ran him through a relatively reliable IQ test and his score is 105. The thing is his intelligence isn't as uniform as most people's; he has a severe mathematical deficiency, for example, which is glaringly obvious in daily life. (He can add two-digit numbers, but can only subtract to the extent of subtracting one-digit numbers from two-digit numbers [and only by counting backward with his fingers] and cannot multiply at every, not even 3x2=6, or divide.) His reading/writing and verbal skills are average, and I suppose in the other areas that receive factored into general intelligence, he must be slightly over average and it compensated for his math problem on the test. Hopefully this gives you an idea of what his limitations are. He has a mail-order high school diploma, although he cheated on the test by having his pal take it for him. A degree is out of the question because it would be impossible for him to pass even the most elementary remedial math course, and an associate's degree always has a 6-credit math requirement. He has a knack for mechanical pursuits and I suggested once that he become an electrician, then reconsidered because of the emphasis on numbers that the certification would place. However, he has been refurbishing gaming consoles and other electronics since childhood and is intuitively quite good at it. He currently works as a part-time assistant repairman for a tiny coffee machine repair company but does not intend to make a career of it. He's also very skilled at sketch art, and is a competent guitarist and sometime drummer and bassist. He's a rather concrete thinker and has trouble with complex abstractions. He failed at school, even in LD classes, but has a wonderful memory for history facts. (LOL, no, it's not Asperger's.) He has superb social facility. These are his skills and deficits, if it helps with any ideas or to further shed light on his particular brand of ability. We are open to any career suggestions. Your help is very appreciated. Didn't mean to imply that Asperger's is laughable. I simply was amused at the way I described his savantism for history facts, which made it sound like a possible symptom of Asperger's even though he's far from that spectrum. I have an Asperger's ex. It's not a big deal.

Resolved Question: Where can I purchase repair/replacement parts DIRECT(online or store) for my Jandy RS6 pool controller?

My Power middle got struck by lightning (not directly) and fried the low voltage board/bezel and the installer FORGOT to order & install the OPTIONAL surge protection kit in S Florida where we receive more lightning strikes than anywhere else in the world. I am an electrician and metered everything and the the only item that is definitely bad is the board. Every else is within spec. I know the system inside and out and can install the board and surge protector myself so I do not need and expensive specialist. The unhappy thing is that when that particular item is bad, NOTHING works. Poole gets nasty very quickly. If anyone has had the same problem and found a work around, I would adore to hear about it. The only thing I did so far was to rewire the pump directly to a timer switch off a spare breaker. At least, I can run the filter and automatic suction cleaner but it sucks when you have this nice, expensive automated system that might as well be a boat anchor because nearly every you do is back to manual.

Resolved Question: Management: To what extent is leadership a universal skill that can be easily transferred? Discuss?

We know leadership is universal in the sense that there are leaders everywhere in human society. From Fred Flintstone, to Obama, To Mao or even Hitler and every social-political group. But is leadership transferable? Is it as transferable as let's say an electrician's skill? Or a TV-repair guy? I am sure a New Yorkan TV repair man could also repair TVs in France. A Canadian oil driller could drill for oil in the South China Sea. Similarly, could a leader from one setting perform his function in another setting? Could Obama be Prime Minister of Britain? And Kevin Rudd be President of the United States? Could an army general guide an air force? Or guide a team of 7-eleven workers? Or a team of accountants? Or could a general manager of a hotel guide a platoon of US marines? To what extent could a manager from one firm necessarily succeed at another firm? Let's discuss this. So could the President of China actually also be the President of the USA? After every he is a leader... and the USA needs a leader...

Resolved Question: May attempt to do spray foam insulation. Is it fairly easy to do?

My husband is fairly decent at home repairs (he's an electrician by trade). We've done a lot of our possess renovating in the last years. We were given a spray foam machine for use if we decide to do this ourselves. For someone who has never done this before, is it fairly easy to do? We found the foam locally for about $700. It's a lot of money to risk "messing it up". Just wondering if there was anyone out there that has attempted doing this and if anyone has any helpful suggestions to make this task run a little smoothly. Thank you!!

Resolved Question: Water and heating gas system?

We had the boiler pump repaired last week and today we needed an electrician to arrive in as we have to buttons one for water heat and one for radiator heat and when you pushed either one they both were coming on and he said not to bother with it only in summer as it would be too hot in summer he said that it does not cost more and I was wasting my money not putting both on at the same time is this true? Resolved Question: Precisions screwdrivers?

Ok, I am lost. I ordered a tool kit. It has everything needed for minor home repairs, every organized in a compact carrying case. Includes 5 precision screwdrivers, 6" adjustable wrench, 5" needle-nose pliers, 1 Phillips and 1 slotted screwdriver, breakaway knife, 5 replacement blades, 8" scissors, 8-oz. claw hammer, 12' x 1/2" measuring tape, a roll of electrician's tape, and 85 assorted screws. My question is I look no tool for the precision screw drivers, and trying to figure out why one wasn't included or is there a standard holder you can receive? I assumed it varies for the set. Feedback appreciated. I guess what I am also asking is I had a tiny precision, and the handle was included. This one didn't, so how can I use the drivers? Resolved Question: How are plumbers and electricians able to complete emergency calls at night?

I look a lot of plumbing and electrical companies advertising "24 hour emergency service". Suppose a pipe springs a leak overnight, and the homeowner calls a plumber from the Yellow Pages. How would he be able to complete the job at those hours if the Home Depot isn't open at that time? Usually to repair something, a plumber/electrician needs to receive replacement parts.

Voting Question: My boyfriend got into a car accident and doesn't know what to do?

His brakes failed as he was driving on his way to work today. And he headed right into the care in front of him. He has a total of 5,000 worth in damages for his possess car. And he has to pay for her damages as well, and pay for her to receive a rental car for the relax of the week. His car is ruined beyond repair. He lives in an isolated city as well, and only had his car to receive him to work. He can't take buses or trains because he has to be at work before 6:30. And his job is an hour away from his home. Unfortunately, they fired him today due to the fact he can't arrive into work. No one is willing to trade shifts with him, and they're full of staff. No one wants to take his 6:30am-2:30pm 5days a week shift. So, he's without a job. Considering he's broke, he doesn't know what to do. And I have no way to help him. I live an hour away as well. His mum won't help him. No one will help him. Is there any advice I could give to him to make him feel better? His job was his career. He was an electrician apprentice. Any advice will be helpful. His emotional stability has already went down. He's saying some off the wall things and I don't know how to help.

Resolved Question: Difference between HVAC/Electrician/Plumber and Appliance Repairman?

I am wondering when do you call an appliance repairman instead of a specialty tradesman? HVAC and appliance repairman both do AC or fridge repair so when do you call which? Electrician or AR for installing new electric stove/dishwasher etc? Plumber or AR for fixing/installing water heater or whatever? What can one do that the other cannot, either skill wise or just legally with the whole license issues. I live in Virginia and it seems AR does not require a license. I'd like to do appliance repair for job but not sure where my limitations would be with what I can and cannot do.

Voting Question: Is there anything wrong with an electrician working for $8 per hour?

I'm an electrician, and I worked for 8 hours today at someone's home making electrical repairs and some new installations (recessed lights, switches, outlets). Materials cost me $186. The homeowner got home from work shortly after I finished everything, and was satisfied with everything I did. He asked me what he owes me, and I said "$186". Then he said, "What about your labor". I said "Well, I don't think I deserve anything for labor.". He said, "arrive on... How about $250. Would that be fair?". I said "OK". He wrote me a check for $250. $250 - 186 = $64. Divided by 8 hours, I made $8 per hour today. Do you think this is a fair amount? I am free-lance and non-union, by the way. I refuse to have anything to do with unions.

its april 2nd, 2012. back on in sept. 2011 i moved into an apartment with an unfinished attic. in january of 2012 i wrote a letter to the management company of my property due to loose wires in the attic and distinctively wrote about a flame hazard with the exposure wires. On march 31 2012 a flame started in the attic which was ruled electrical and destroyed everything I owned. Can I sue? I saved my documents and have verification that I express concern over this very issue. the management company did send out a repair person that said they will not handle the issue because it needs an electrician but no electrician was sent so i was left with the end result, my apartment burning down. what steps should i take? again i have the flame marshall report, my email and photos of the fire

Resolved Question: Who is responsible for paying for damage to my house if my neighbor's tree caused the damage?

My neighbor's tree dropped a huge limb on the power line into my home Friday night. The power company said that the damage that was caused was to our meterbox and weatherhead and since the damaged parts were attached to our home we were responsible for the repairs. Our homeowner's insurance deductible is $1,000, but we were able to receive it repaired for $225, so there was no point in us turning in a claim. The electrician said it would be $100, but he ran into some stuff that ran it up to $225. It was still the best quote we could find. We called 10 people and their quotes were every $500-$700. This guy was licensed and bonded and so we went with him. I was willing to shell out $100 to just repair it and not have to deal with the neighbors, but $225 is really more than I am comfortable shelling out. They knew about the damage and knew we were paying out of pocket for it because I was casually chatting with the wife and mentioned it, but they never ventured the fact that they are responsible for any part of it. Are they responsible? And if so, do you think it's worth the annoyance of probably going back and forth with them to receive the money? They aren't the friendliest people, but we could really use them to pay if they are responsible for at least half the bill. What are your thoughts?

Voting Question: How do you suggest I resolve this?

An agreement was made between myself & the seller that the seller would pay the cost of a certified electrician to repair the corrosion on the neutral bar of the electrical panel, & furnish me with a copy of the bill. This morning, I got a call from my realtor who advised me that she paid for the repair, done by a certified electrician...but this electrician works for a company..did the work for her as a favour...so there's no bill.I'm with the understanding that when someone works for a company, they're not supposed to perform work independently..hence, no bill. She acknowledged that according to the written & signed agreement, I'm entitled to a receipt. She also had the original building inspector look at the completed work, & he is impressed with the quality of work the electrician performed. Let's keep in mind, that although I respect the building inspector very much, he is not a certified electrician. I am entitled to inspect the electrical box to confirm the work was done. My eyes will tell me the work was done, but there's no proof the work was done by a certified electrician (again, no bill). Bottom line here, I don't want to sign any amendment unless I have a receipt. My lawyer says that I can either 'dig my heels in" and insist on a receipt, or I can arrange for a 3rd party electrician to inspect the work. Of course, the seller would never consent to pay this inspection. I don't feel I should pay for the 3rd party inspection. Failure of getting a receipt or 3rd party would not cease the closing of the property, which of course I understand. I realise my realtor did this with a good heart in attempting to assist the seller, but she knows the agreement specifically states that I am to receive a receipt. Why on earth she'd pay for this herself is beyond me. How do you suggest I resolve this issue? Could I ask that she state in the amendment that SHE herself paid for the electrician's services..that he is in fact a certified electrician, & that should anything go wrong she'd be responsible?

Resolved Question: How To Fix A Wire Short Circuit (DIY)?

I’ve recently moved in to a new flat, and (unsurprisingly) have run into a bit of trouble with the bathroom light-fan combo. After taking a shower, the light AND fan refused to turn off. Turning off the switch, and then removing the switch cover (and disconnecting its wires) both failed to turn the light/fan off. Bathroom Specs: Light – Stuck ON Fan – Stuck ON – The fan (used) to always stay on for about 5 minutes after I turned its switch off (in order to clear up the steam). A previous poster informed me this means there is an autonomous connection between the light/fan and the power source. There are no switches or outlets in the bathroom itself. Hallway Specs: There are three switches in the hallway 1st Switch = 1 button: for hallway light 2nd Switch = 1 red button: shower on/off 3rd Switch = 2 button: first button also controls the same hallway light; second button controls the bathroom’s light AND fan (they BOTH turn on when that button is turned on). The 3rd Switch’s 2nd button (light AND fan button) is the problem. This morning (after having taken a shower) I switched the button OFF, but it remained ON. It will not turn off. I have since removed the light bulb, the fan covering, and switched the bathroom’s circuit breaker off. The wire colours of the 3rd Switch are as follows: Top 3 Left-to-Right: Red, Blue and Black Bottom 2 Left-to-Right: Yellow and Red The bathroom’s fan is seemingly not powerful enough to handle the level of condensation. Due to the winter season, and the construction of the bathroom, there is medium to high amounts of condensation after taking showers. I suspect this may be the cause of the problem. After having asked a related question on another thread, some of the responses I received indicated it may be a short circuit, and that the light/fan have a direct current of electricity which cannot be broken by simply removing the switch (as I have already done). After removing the switch, the light AND fan of the bathroom stubbornly remained on. Only after I turned off the main circuit breaker did they turn off. I would like to know if anyone may give me some helpful hints on repairing this problem? A previous poster mentioned that the switch itself is probably not the problem. Instead, he said the problem is most likely a short circuit occurring over the light/fan in the bathroom. This would mean I’ll need to remove the light bulb’s ‘rose’ covering and replace/repair the connection? Is there any helpful hints anyone can give me regarding this? By the way, I am the 1st floor flat of a 2 floor building. My ceiling is someone else’s floor. I recognize most of the responses will be “Call an electrician”, however I would rather complete the task myself if possible. I like to learn new skills, and am a fan of DIY projects. I have some knowledge of electric theory, and can find/learn any information I am lacking; I’m really just looking for a nudge in the right direction. I’m not out to take away the livelihood of honest, hardworking electricians – I just don’t believe 95% of the ‘every day’ problems we experience require freaking out and calling a ‘professional’. Learning, to me, is a daily activity, and one that should be looked forward to; and, as a perfectionist, I would rather trust my possess work than someone else’s. So, if anyone has any good advice on how to fix this problem the ‘DIY’ (Do It Yourself) way, please let me know. If this problem really, truly, and honestly is much more serious than I give it credit, feel free to let me know (with reasons why, please). But, at the moment, every I look is a faulty circuit connection. I have a screwdriver, and a knife with wire stripping / cutting tools; usually these are every I need to fix most problems I encounter. I much prefer to keep myself the £30 (or likely much, much, MUCH more) and simply learn a new skill at the same time. Nothing is that difficult when you learn how. Thanks a bunch for the help! I'll give your advice a try. Thanks a bunch everyone. KevLEC and Uebermensch, I'm hoping your advice on it simply being the fan at fault is right - otherwise it'll require a bit more effort. Thanks a bunch you two. I'll try and disconnect the fan from the circuit. I have already tried this... but the fan seems to have a battery 'pack' connector where the wires enter into it. Because it's on the ceiling, it's extremely difficult to determine if this 'pack' is glued in place or if it will simply unplug. I just don't want to break the darn thing, lol. I suppose I'll give it a try as, either way, it'll probably need replacing as you say. Anyways, thanks for the help everyone!

Resolved Question: Electrical jobs help! please!?

What are some electrical jobs that I can receive, without having a car? My back round is electrical. Im a apprentice level electrician. I went to a trade school last year and I got hands on training in commercial, residential, and industrial electrical installations, maintenance and repairs. I have gotten interviews with commercial electrical contractors, and a lot of interviews for maintenance jobs, but the job sites are always too far away, and I don't have a car. Resolved Question: Who pays for cable repairs in walls?

Hi, Recently the cable line in my apartment broke from some weird temperature gradient and now the wire needs to be replaced. The cable company said it is not their responsibility to replace the wire because that involves breaking down and repairing walls. So I asked my landlord to call the electrician to fix the problem but he is saying that it isn't his responsibility to pay for the damages and repairs because it is the tenant's choice to have cable. Thus he's implying that either I or the cable company will have to pay. I don't think this is fair because I believe that I would only need to pay for repairs and maintenance if I owned the building or caused the damages. Thus, I rent so I don't have to go through the hassle. Who's responsible to pay for the cost of fixing the cable wiring?

Resolved Question: Can the court make me pay for this?

I called a roofing company replace the roof in a home. I wanted to be gift for the work, but they called me only after they where done. I met the contractor on that home to give him the money, but I discovered that they did a bad job in replace the roof and on the contract I signed for a black roof but they used red shingles. I payed the invoice for repairs in first home and I did. but I was still mad for the bad job and the wrong color, they told me that they did not do a good job because was a home for rent. At least they decided that was to expensive for them to replace every the shingles again, and to call an electrician to install an electric vent (they forgot to install one), so they told me that if I wanted to accept they where going just to replace some shingles in the front of the home and the board below them and live every the other things like that and they could make a 1000 $ discounted. I accepted, so I payed them, every but the 1000 $. After They where done I received a invoice for 2000 dollars, I don't want to pay and he say that he'll bring me to court. Can the court make me pay?? PS. I saved the picture with bad job + the pics that show that they replaced just the shingles and boards the second time. The invoice was for 5.000 $and they told me if was ok for them just fix the most bad things and to pay just the 4.000 $. I accepted and I payed the 4.000 $, but after they fixed it they sent another invoice for 2.000 $ (then they didn't discounted the 1.000 and they are adding 1.000 x fixed some of their mistakes) on the contract there was write that he needed to install ridge vents and electric vent, he didn't installed the electric one

Resolved Question: Where can I purchase repair/replacement parts DIRECT for my Jandy RS6 pool controller?

My neighbor is a "Mr. Fixit" Now he "fixed" my a.c and said it will cease flipping the breaker, I guess thats what it is. Its on the inside of the home in the box. He put a 40 in instead of a 50. I don't really understand every this stuff except the thing keeps flipping. And its annoying. Please explain this to me so I know what I need to do to fix it besides call an a.c, electrician or whatever. The last two months I have had to replace my fridge, a.c, stove and washer. Resolved Question: How could I get to date an electrician?

I'm an 18-year old single girl, but I have a thing for electricians. How could I meet a single electrician to date? My parents had to call an electrician twice over the past year or so, for separate problems, and I was home both times when the electrician came to make the repairs. The first time, the guy had a girlfriend already, and the second one was married. I would like to date an electrician, if there are any single ones around.

Resolved Question: Is this wiring job possible?

I've hired a professional electrician to do some tiny repairs for me like replacing a broken GFCI, installing a ceiling fan, etc. I was wondering if he could also modify the wiring to the bathroom fan so it automatically engages with the shower light but also can be used on its possess (without the shower light). So there would be one switch for the vanity lights, one switch for the fan, and one switch for both the fan and the shower light. Is this setup something a licensed electrician would be able to do easily?

Resolved Question: What to do if rainwater leaks into your breaker panel?

Do I need to replace the breaker panel after the breakers have gotten wet? Would appreciate answers from long time home owners and certified electricians. I had it inspected by an electrician, and he told me that there is water leaking in through a pipe at the top of the meter box outside the home, where the electricity comes in. The water has been leaking through some gray tubing that houses wire cabling. The entire service is pretty much brand new. The breaker panel was installed in 2011. The equipment and meter outside the home where the electricity comes in was replaced in 2008. He is telling me that the breaker panel absolutely needs to be replaced, in addition to replacing/repairing the pipe outside where the rain is leaking in. every together he's thinking I'm in for about $1200 in repairs. He claims that the circuit breakers "absolutely must be replaced" because of possible rusting and water damage which he "guarantees will cause me problems in the future". Is he trying to take me for a ride, or is it really that important for me to replace the breaker panel?

Resolved Question: My Samsung LCD TV wont power on?

I have a SAMSUNG LCD TV 40" bought about three years ago. recently it wont power on. The red light keeps flashing and it keeps trying to power on with no effect, so a clicking noise is constantly heard without any picture coming on. Have read on a few sites that it may be the capacitors which may need to be replaced. Does anyone know anyone in Sheffield who could do this. The telly cost £1000 but now is only £350 in the shops so dont want to spend a fortune repairing it. I have read that you could DIY and have a pal who is an electrician who may be able to do it. Has anyone done this before and what was the outcome? Thank you for your replies

Resolved Question: what's wrong with gas dryer?

I'm working on a maytag gas dryer. it's in a home I rent out. the tenant said there is no heat. I pulled off the lower front cover to look if the flame was coming on. most of the time it does. sometimes it goes out and will not turn on during it's cycle. if you reset the timer or just hit the start button after you open then close the door it usually comes on. it's an intermitent problem that has to be fixed. I was going to put new solenoids in (I've done this b 4 on other dryers) but I was also wondering about the heat sensor close the flame duct (tube). could it be worn out and shutting gas off when it shouldn't. I'm a electrician by trade but not real familiar with washer/dryer repair. not afraid to try though. any help would be nice. oh, the model # sdg2606ww.
